THE AS IF ACTION METHOD.

The AS IF ACTION METHOD draws on the work of Milton Erickson and the great power of taking action in creating a mental climate to make it easier to do something important without being dragged down by emotional paralysis, overwhelm, and resistance.

***WARNING: Folks with a history of mental illness, trauma, or panic are urged not to use this process without a counselor or therapist. If you decide to do this process you will agree to absolve the webmasters, their server, Emoclear.com, and Steve Mensing of any responsibility for the application or misapplication of this process. There is always in any emotional process the possibility that someone could experience some discomfort. So proceed with this warning.***

THE AS IF ACTION METHOD.

Steps for the As If Action Method.

(1) CHOOSE SOMETHING YOU PREFER TO TAKE ACTION ON: Choose something that's important to do that you resist doing or feeling emotionally paralyzed to do. After you choose the action, go to step (2).

(2) WHAT IF WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO WAS EXPERIENCED AS STIMULATING, IMPORTANT, AND PLEASURABLE? WHAT WOULD YOU FEEL WHILE DOING THIS STIMULATING, IMPORTANT, AND PLEASURABLE ACTIVITY FROM START TO FINISH? WHAT WOULD YOU SEE, FEEL, HEAR, TASTE AND SMELL WHEN YOU DID THIS STIMULATING, IMPORTANT, & PLEASURABLE ACTIVITY FROM START TO FINISH:

*What if you wanted to do (Act, talk, think, relate, ect.) was experienced as stimulating, important, and pleasurable to do?

*What would you feel when you did this stimulating, important, and pleasurable activity from start to finish?

*What would you see when you did this stimulating, important, and pleasurable activity from start to finish?

*What would you hear when you did this stimulating, important, and pleasurable activity from start to finish?

*What would you taste and smell when you did this stimulating, important, and pleasurable activity from start to finish?

*What would your posture and movement be when you did this stimulating, important, and pleasurable activity from start to finish?

*(If applicable) What might you be imagining or thinking when you did this stimulating, important, and pleasurable from start to finish?

*Now go through the activity involving all your senses in experiencing the "as if" activity. [If you have experience chant visualizing, you can chant visualize the "as if" activity in all five senses.] After another run through, go to step (3)

(3) GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO DO WHAT YOU JUST "AS IFED" AND PRACTICE IT SEVERAL TIMES. NOW GO DO IT IN REAL LIFE FROM START TO FINISH: Give yourself permission to do what you "as ifed" and practice it several times. Now go do it in real life from start to finish.

TIPS ON THE AS IF ACTION METHOD.

*Practice this new as if pattern in real life and imaginally as much as possible until it feels natural.

*Hydrate yourself prior to doing the "As If" Action Method.

*Alter your sense experience to subtly alter your "As if" experience if you want. You can alter the following senses:

Visual

Can you alter the color?
Can you change your distance from the image?
Can you brighten or dim the image?
Can you make the image larger or smaller?
Can you speed up or slow down the image?
Can you alter it to weaken or strengthen emotions?

Hearing

Can you make it louder or quieter?
Can you alter its tone?
Can you alter the direction of the sound?
Can you speed the content up or slow it down?
Can you hear specific sounds or words?

Felt

Can you make it hot or cold?
Can you change its texture?
Can you change its heaviness or lightness?
Can you feel it moving or staying in place?

*Practice, practice, practice.

Have fun, Steve
